Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson

"Unnoticeable in a Tiny Town, Invisible in the City" is the debut release from this Norwegian outfit. They bring a blend of post-rock, lofi, emo and electronica to their well crafted songs. Definitely a record that should be listened to from start to finish, preferably on headphones. The songs are long but not overdone and tend to move around from ambient to full on rock. Be on the lookout for their follow up release some time this year!

The Jazz June

Here is the discography from post hardcore geniuses The Jazz June down to the collection of 7"s and comp tracks and the compilation from their slew of reunion shows a couple years ago. This band is many things, part emo part indie with post hardcore roots. Some of the best stuff I've heard from the genre, honestly listen to all of this stuff if you even have an interest in late 90's indie jams, you WILL NOT be disappointed. DON'T LET MY EXCUSE FOR A DESCRIPTION SCARE YOU AWAY...DOWNLOAD AND ENJOY!!!

Fight Amp

Young Widows canceled their show at Dudefest this year. It totally bummed me out. This band, however, totally replaced them. Well, for me at least, because I never heard of them before. Mix Sweet Cobra with Young Widows and you will have Fight Amp. They rocked the 21+ venue. Fuck, this album is heavy. They have a babe guitarist too!

Native

So... last Thursday night, I went to a house show. Which is something I rarely do, especially in the summer. I met some cool dudes, and spent most of the time on the porch smokin' and talkin' and drinkin' and eatin'. Yeah yeah, well... I heard some tight jams from the porch and went to the basement. This band was fuckin' SWEET. Bass driven harcore/emo/punk with incredible guitar work and drums. Again... fuck descriptions. They reminded me of a combination of Off Minor and Hugs. Bassist did vocals as well.

I bought a shirt and a CD and scooted. I encourage you to do the same. This band was fantastic. The Recording is fantastic as well.

A Day In Black And White

I heard about this band after reading that their first full length was reminiscent to City Of Caterpillar's s/t album. This is when I purchased albums, so I did. My Heroes Have Always Killed Cowboys is still one of my favorite progressive indi/punk albums. Their previous material is a bit more to the point with heavier abrasive elements, and post-Cowboys material has more of an melodic softer sound with jagged chords intertwined to create a solid structure of whatever post genres you want to label. Punk, indi, hardcore... whatever. Some part of my body is always moving when I listen to this band.

The only files I am missing here are their split 7"s with Golden Birds and Silent Reminder. Leave comments and enjoy.

Oh yeah, this thread is dedicated to my room-mates of Park ave. Good times with dart-guns, mongoloids, Mario Kart, fire works, the list goes on and on....

The Holy Shroud

I am pretty sure this band only has one member from his/their previous band, North of America. Correct me if I am wrong. "The band's combination of dissonant, snaking guitars, off-kilter melody, and pummeling rhythmic sensibilities" would have been lost for not Hot Cross' invitation on their tour.

This band is still considered active but I am doubting another actual release from them. I sure hope I am wrong.

This file linked below has both their full length and split 7" with Hot Cross, both released on Level-Plane records. Also, my power went out at the last fucking second of the upload. When the power came back on and I restored my session, mediafire said the file was successfully uploaded. Tell me if it lied to me. =)

Medications

I was introduced to this band through an old room mate about two years ago while watching one of the Burn to Shine DVDs. They're the only thing I remember besides this amazingly shitty band whispering "AK Forty-seven, AK Forty-seven, AK Forty-seven...." Well yeah, I love hearing about new bands as awesome as this, even in this case, where I am completely late.

This is another crazy awesome trio out of Washington DC. They formed in early 03' and have two members from Faraquet. They released an EP under Dischord records, which was followed by their full length.

If you are into Faraquet or Smart Went Crazy, you will like Medications. Enjoy.

Ghastly City Sleep

Here is the debut EP from New York's Ghastly City Sleep and it couldn't be more impressive. Taking a tip from their namesake the tunes are haunting mix of beautiful and morose melodies. The four songs take lull the listener at one point and jar them the next all while wrapped up in a semi-ambient bliss. Great for the headphones or the turntable.

For Fans of: Gregor Samsa, Sigur Ros, etc.

Rival Schools

Rival Schools is ending their six year hiatus at the Rock AM Ring festival in the UK in one fucking week! Yeah, they're also writing new material. Get pumped. I mean it.

Walter from Gorilla Biscuits and Quicksand started this project during early 2001, quickly gaining recognition from MTV audiences. They released only one full length then departed before their second album could release. Thanks to the internet, that second album plus many other unreleased tracks and b-sides are available to listen.

The new album should be out later this year. And as always, leave comments and enjoy.

Yet another kick ass trio I have decided to post. Cole! Members include Mike Salmon, John Walker, and Steve Kuhn. If you are unfamiliar with this band but you like Rodan, June of 44, and Shipping News, then you will definitely be into Cole. I believe I am missing a 7" and their self-titled EP. But this band is to obscure to find details. Whatever, these two albums are baller and you should listen to them.

Refused

"I'd rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in!" Unfortunately for Sweden's Refused, they were not forgotten and after giving into the pressures of a low-budget shitty U.S. tour, they disbanded. However, their demise created a legacy that have livened many parties and other things I don't pay that much attention to. It doesn't matter. I love Refused and I am sure you do as well. They're great. Worthy of an Achilous post.

I added The New Noise Theology EP at the end of The EP Compilation. Sorry that I had to split that file up. Mediafire will not allow files over 100,000KB.

And as always, leave comments which will make my wiener hard and en-fucking-joy.

31Knots

(I took the links down via polyvinyl's request. sorry)

One of the best trios making music. They've been around for a decade now. I would compare them to Cursive, only they create much better music as they continue releasing albums. As they progress, the music has become more atmospheric and "mathy", using different instruments and techniques including keys and samples.

I am missing The Rehearsal Dinner and It Was High Time To Escape. I will try very hard to get Worried Well for you guys and gals. Just keep checking back. =)

If anyone can put up the two albums I am missing, that would be greatly appreciated.

Erik Mongrain

Another acoustic extraordinaire. He is known for lap tapping really. Catch him on the streets of Canada or huge theaters. Dude really keeps his art with the guitar and not with corporate money mongers.

You can catch him play Air Tap! on youtube.

This is his only actual release really. You can download different songs he records for free on his website here.

A Silver Mt. Zion

**I'd just like to take a moment and explain that you click the link BELOW the album cover to download the album. Lots of people have been asking, so I figured I'd clarify. Anyways, on with the show.**

------------------

Quebec, Canada's Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, referred to as A Silver Mt. Zion (ASMZ) for the sake of simplicity, has been around the block. Some might even say that they helped make the block. When you were still in diapers and loving the Barney theme-song, ASMZ's mastermind (Efrim Menuck) was tearing the lid off of orchestrated, avant-garde post-rock in Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Much to the dismay of the entire planet, GY!BE went on an indefinite hiatus...and thus spawned the affectionate lovechild...A Silver Mt. Zion. If you listened to GY!BE then you can definitely feel the influence in ASMZ. On ASMZ's first three albums...it's almost like you're actually listening to a weirdly creative and orchestral version of GY!BE. It makes sense after all, considering three of the seven members of ASMZ played in GY!BE.

This isn't to say they're the same however. ASMZ sports some very jazzy and minimal tunes that weren't as typical of GY!BE. Undoubtedly, there's also a very old Jewish world-music type of style in some of their songs that just feels right. Furthermore...there's always that whole vocals thing they've started doing on their last two releases. Out of nowhere, ASMZ boasts some of the craziest folky "community-singing" you'll hear. They have a choir, all seven members of the band sing, etc. etc. The vocals might take some getting used to...but it pays off. Lyrically, they've proved to be as insightful and beautiful as they are musically.

Chances are, after 9 years, these guys still have a lot of life left in them. Things aren't looking good for GY!BE on the reunion front... so don't waste your time wishing for things that won't happen...especially when you can listen to the next best thing.
