So if you haven't heard of these guys, then I think it's safe to say you haven't listened to much post-rock. If that's the case...then this is a great way to start! Remember when you were watching Friday Night Lights (the movie) and you were thinking "whoa, what stellar instrumental tracks!!!"? Yea you do! That was this band...shame on you for not checking them out sooner. Really epic, climactic jams. Each album has a pretty distinct feel to it, so you can't really go wrong with any of them.

In celebration of pop-punk weather/summer, I offer you...OSKER! The vocals of Devon Williams are sort of rough, but once you get past them I'm quite convinced that you'll fall deeply in love with this band. The lyrics are bitter, bold, and badass (the three essential B's of PUNK RAWK) with some simple musical parts to ease you right along. Check it out, eat it up & go for a walk with it jamming on that ritzy yuppie Ipod of yours. You can thank me later.

These dudes were in a band called Jackson 9 then something happened, people left and new songs were recorded. Then some more songs and a couple more. All of which were split up on different 7"s and whatnot. One of those "whatnots" was the La Mantra De Fhiqria split. That band had some members from (lone) wolf & cub. The others were with The Great Redneck Hope and... god dammit... HORSE the band. Oh well, maybe horse just smoked em up real good. I hope so. I hate that band.
Either way, Bleeding Kansas' EP and full length rock hard. Yup.

Also, for the next couple posts, I am strictly putting up my favorite hardcore bands.

Cursive

Who the hell would think that an amazing band could come out of Omaha, Nebraska?

So uhhh... that might be kind of a stereotype, and for that I apologize.

Cursive is fronted by a total badass named Tim Kasher (formerly of Commander Venus and Slowdown Virginia). Each of their albums offer a pretty different and unique sound, with some awesome lyrics courtesy of Tim. If you're a fan of the jamz that Saddle Creek puts out, then give these guys a shot. I suppose I'd describe it as really good darker(?) indie. Domestica is an awesome concept album about divorce, cheating, etc. and The Ugly Organ has a really great sound to it with some sweeeeeet organ parts.
If you like Tim, be sure to check out The Good Life as well. I'll probably up their albums sometime in the near future.

Omega Massif

German instrumental jamz that bring the heavyness. Taking elements from bands like Pelican and expanding them with heavier, sludgier, slower and meaner parts. Though it's pop-punk weather outside it's also finals time for a lot of students, making this highly recommended for studying/paper writing. Disclaimer: Once you put yr headphones you may be unable to stop head banging...ok that may be an exaggeration but this band is seriously the real deal!

For Fans of: Tides, Pelican, Mouth of the Architect, Isis, Souvenir's Young America, Irepress, Vanessa Van Basten, etc.

Maritime

One of my all time favorite bands. Davey and Dan from The Promise Ring and Eric from The Dismemberment Plan joined up and started playing in 2003 under the name, The English. After their first couple songs recorded, they changed their name and released the Adios EP. Shortly after, they released a full length which got horrible revues. This is why I don't read reviews. The Glass Floor is fantastic. Everything is fantastic. I love Maritime!

All my Maritime files have the bonus songs that either came on the LP or extra bonus 7".

Monseraat

Funny story. When I lived in Wisconsin, one of the girls I dated had this ex bf that when finding out I lived with Zach (the bassist of Monseraat), he wanted to be my best friend. "OMG, he's like the best bassist in Racine! NO DOUBT!" I guess you kinda had to be there, or at least know the band.

Either way, I privilege you with their EP and some songs off their self-titled demo. Monseraat got high in Racine. Their music is mathy/screamy stuff. I miss that shit hole.

These free MP3's will put Ellison on the streets. Oh well. Can't live in the suburbs forever.

The Get Up Kids (1995-2005)
An indie rock band from Lawrence, Kansas. Put out four full-lengths in their lifespan and a rarities collection. They're often cited as one of the most "influential emo bands". Good stuff; worth checking out.

Very Secretary

Very Secretary mixes violin, acoustic picked guitar, bass and keyboard melodies to create a sound overwhelmingly emphasizing melody. When I ask if they are into any other Kinsella type bands, they respond with a dumbfounded look and say "huh?". The Narrator

This fun indie band reminds me of Meneguar. It should be the other way around, but everyone is all about Meneguar, so whatever. Either way, The Narrator are awesome. If you don't agree then you have not listened. I am missing their first full length. Remind me to put it up if you like what you hear from the albums posted below.
